With over 30 years experience E Sutton and Son are one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of wide-fit footwear; with both classic and contemporary influences that adhere to the E Sutton and Son principles of quality and design excellence.

Designed from scratch in the UK with meticulous attention to detail, to give superb levels of style, comfort and fit, from a team of designers and technicians with decades of heritage and technical know how whom individually have at least 25 years footwear manufacturing experience. All of this goes in to each pair of shoes from E Sutton and Son.

Initially the designer will sketch out the design and create an individual last or mould for each style; which focuses on the toe, heel and side areas of the shoe to ensure the correct fit. The drawing is overlayed onto the last to create a 3D model of the design.

These lasts and drawings are then recreated ready for the sampling and manufacturing process to ensure that the finished product adheres to the designer’s original concept. It is during this stage that things like the heel height and ‘toe spring’, which is the distance from the toe end of the last and the ground, whose interrelation is vital to ensure a natural and comfortable walking action, are set.

The designer is also careful to ensure that the shoe is wider than a standard shoe and with additional cushioning to ensure maximum comfort. Heel stiffeners counters and arch supports are then added to the shoe to ensure the correct level of support for the foot.

Once a sample is produced it is then tested for fit, flex, durability and suitability of materials. Our synthetic materials allow us to offer a greater range of colours than can be achieved with natural leather. They also offer increased consistency of material and enhanced water resistance.

Any necessary changes are then made to the shoe before being sent for final approval. Once approved, full production can commence.

Product development is entirely controlled by our UK based team who design the collection, source all components and materials that are then thoroughly tested in our own SATRA Accredited Lab by our own SATRA qualified technicians to make sure our stringent quality control standards are adhered to.
